At
Serengeti, we realize that most law departments don't have the time
or staff to devote to a lengthy implementation. That's why we've
developed an implementation process that allows us to configure the
system,
convert data from an existing source, train all users, and connect
all law firms in around three months for large law departments—much less for smaller departments.
CUSTOMER INSIGHTS
Question: How much time did it take and what was the effort
involved in getting started on the Serengeti system?
James Sheets of Resun Leasing - Small Law Department
It probably took 2 or 3 weeks. We did not have much data to
be converted over and there was only one person who needed to be
trained, and that was me. So it was a very, very easy process.
Geneva Gilbertson of Sierra Health - Medium Law Department
Here at Sierra, it probably took a total of two and a half weeks
because I was the only one working to get the fields in our
database in alignment with those of Serengeti prior to the
conversion – and that included
6 years accumulation of data being converted.
Lynn Molfetta of American Express - Large Law Department
We were on Corporate LawPack and we had created matters over the
years and never closed them. Once we decided when the cut-off
date was and how many matters were going to be converted, it
took us 2 to 3 months because we have, as you can well imagine,
a lot of law firms, and a lot of attorneys. All of our attorneys
are using it, and a lot of people needed to get trained. We felt
that with the size of American Express 2 to 3 months was an
aggressive timeframe, but we were able to meet that.

A recent large law department installation involved more than 300
in-house users, and 500+ firms in 75 countries. We set up the
system; completed training for both in-house and firm
users; and fully implemented e-billing, collaboration, and
reporting in less than three months. This process included
conversion of historical data from their previous
matter management system (LawPack ).For large law departments,
Serengeti is the easiest to implement,
most cost-effective system to manage legal teams worldwide. Some of
the world's largest law departments have chosen Serengeti to manage their legal work
with all of their hundreds of law firms. Unique features of benefit to large law
departments include: foreign currency conversions, law department
practice group organization, automatic allocation of bills across
multiple cost centers, flexible reporting, and sophisticated
law department budget tracking.

CUSTOMER INSIGHT - Heinz
"At first, many people in-house thought 80% adoption by our top
20 firms would be a success. Today, all of our firms send 100%
of their bills to the U.S. through Serengeti, and we expect the
same total adoption overseas.”

Small Law Department Profile
press release - Stanford University
press release -
FMC Technologies
A recent small law department installation involved just 3
in-house users, working with 90 law firms in 3 countries, managing
170 matters and 120 contracts. In less than seven weeks, Serengeti was configured to meet the needs of the law department and
was connected
with all of the company's law firms. The department is now managing all of
its legal work through Serengeti, including tracking budgets and
documents and electronically processing about 100 bills per month.
Although small law departments face
challenges similar to larger law departments when managing work with
outside counsel, they often believe that they can’t afford the time
or expense of matter management or e-billing systems. While it is
true that many such systems only make sense for the Fortune 500,
Serengeti’s unique design and pricing make it the
most cost-effective option for small law departments (some with a single
lawyer). If your law department is spending more than $500,000 per year
on outside counsel, Serengeti can more than pay for itself in the
savings generated from e-billing and budgeting alone. Small law departments appreciate the quick, low effort
implementation, reasonable all-inclusive monthly fee based upon
their lower volumes of work, and no charges to their law firms. They
also appreciate access to the Tracker Worldwide Directory of law
firms, which allows them to quickly search for the right firm for
each project from all of the firms connected to Serengeti, and to add
them to their panel with a single click.
