Would you like to know how your management of outside counsel compares with other in-house counsel? Are you interested in the latest techniques being used by other law departments? The 2009 Survey Report was released at the ACC Annual Meeting in Boston on October 19, 2009.

Approximately 400 law departments share their insights on managing work with outside counsel in the ninth annual survey conducted by ACC and Serengeti Law. Specific benchmarks by size of company and size of law department permit useful comparisons with your practice. From amounts spent and hourly rates, to common management techniques (such as billing guidelines, alternative fees, and budgets), to newer techniques (such as minimum associate experience levels and early payment discounts), to technology solutions (such as electronic billing and Internet-based services), detailed information is summarized so that you can learn from the experiences of other in-house counsel. This year's report also presents the hourly rates paid by corporate clients for specific types of legal work in major metropolitan areas.

The 170-page report is provided on a CD, which organizes information for ease of reference. The report summary provides a strategic view of the evolving ways that law departments are managing outside counsel, including trends over the past nine years. Detailed tables break down the information by size of company and size of law department.
