Stanford University Law Department
Implements Serengeti Tracker
Bellevue, WA – February 07, 2005 – Serengeti Law today announced that the Stanford
University Office of the General Counsel is the first university law
department to implement Serengeti Tracker, a Web-based matter management
and electronic billing system. Serengeti Tracker connects Stanford’s
legal team with its internal clients and its law firms in a shared
online system that efficiently tracks spending, activities, and results.
As part of the implementation, Serengeti converted Stanford’s data from
LAWTRAC Online, the system that Stanford had previously used to manage
its legal work.
“Our top priority was a system that is easy to use for both our lawyers
and our outside counsel,” said Debra Zumwalt, Stanford’s General
Counsel. “The response from our law firms has been very positive.
Because Serengeti is a convenient way for our firms to transmit
information to us, we receive more timely and useful updates, and can
track the latest developments across all of our legal work.”
Serengeti Tracker currently connects more than 3,000 law department
users with all of their over 6,000 law firms worldwide. Legal teams
process electronic bills, manage budgets, collaborate on documents, meet
key deadlines, and track results using Tracker’s secure online files and
reports. There is no hardware or software to install, as all users share
the system through encrypted Internet connections. Serengeti’s
conversion services, which uploaded Stanford’s data from LAWTRAC Online,
save manual data entry time, and permit users to start with current data
from a previous system or database.
Although some of the world’s largest law departments use Serengeti
Tracker to manage all of their legal work worldwide, it is also
cost-effective for small law departments, some with just a single
lawyer. Serengeti charges law departments a fixed monthly service fee,
which includes all law department and law firm users, support, upgrades,
and other services. There are no charges to law firms who use Serengeti
Tracker.
“Stanford has quickly become a valuable member of the Serengeti user
community,” said Rob Thomas, Serengeti’s Vice President of Strategic
Development. “Their diverse legal work and their organized approach make
them a good fit for the functions provided by our system. The two
members of our management team who are Stanford Law School grads are
particularly proud to have Stanford as our first university law
department.”
