 Serengeti Tracker Facilitates Legal Work
Management for FMC TechnologiesFast Implementation Leads to Savings Managing Work
with Law Firms Worldwide
Seattle – December 9, 2002 – Serengeti Law announced today that FMC
Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:FTI) has implemented the Serengeti Tracker
management system to handle its legal work worldwide. FMC Technologies is
a global leader in providing mission-critical technology solutions for the
energy, food processing, and air transportation industries. Serengeti Law,
the first application service provider dedicated to the legal profession,
provides an Internet-based system on which more than 1000 in-house users
work with more than 1,400 law firms worldwide.
"Serengeti’s technology puts at our fingertips the critical information
that we need to make better strategic decisions, and to assure optimum
performance from our legal teams," said Jeffrey W. Carr, Vice President
General Counsel and Secretary of FMC Technologies. "Serengeti Tracker is
the backbone of our strategy to remove any barriers to cooperation,
collaboration, and access to information with our law firms.”
Serengeti Tracker was selected after a seven-month review of the latest
technologies, which was conducted for FMC Technologies by Legal Research
Center, Inc. (OTC:LRCI). “We recommended Serengeti Tracker because of its
superior delivery of productivity gains for law departments, with a system
that is easy to use for in-house counsel as well as law firms,” said Barry
J. Dop, Legal Research Center’s Vice President of Corporate Development.
During the past several months, FMC Technologies has brought more than 600
matters onto the Tracker system, involving 28 in-house users and over 30
law firms.
FMC Technologies is using Serengeti Tracker to accomplish the following:
- Reduce the cost and amount of
administrative work through delivery of real time internal and external
matter status information, creation of on-demand reports, and electronic
bill submission, review and processing;
- Control costs through budget management,
and spending and outcome reporting;
- Reduce paper handling by using virtual
files shared with outside counsel;
- Facilitate outside counsel evaluations
and after action reviews to ensure that lessons learned are captured,
knowledge is reused, and performance is continuously improved;
- Assign new work to outside counsel with
the best track records for effectiveness and efficiency.
Carr has recently been recognized with
national awards for an innovative risk-reward fee structure known as the
Alliance Counsel Engagement System or ACESTM (patent pending). With ACES,
FMC Technologies aligns its interest in rapid, successful, and
cost-effective resolution of legal disputes with a fair compensation model
for its law firms. Law firms working on the ACES model share both the
risk and added incentives relative to efficiently achieved results.
Serengeti Law is working with FMC to make ACES work seamlessly with
Tracker on appropriate cases.
"We believe that Serengeti Tracker is a natural fit with the strategic
partnering approach adopted by FMC Technologies with its law firms,” said
Don Murray, President of Serengeti Law. “We are working together with law
departments like the one at FMC Technologies to give in-house counsel even
better management options."
